I never was really happy with how Roads turned out, because I don't like my vocals (but that's a problem on many of the tracks on "Perfectly Wrong") and we somehow compressed it too much, so the drums in the instrumental part lost a little of their punch. But I think it's still a decent recording, there are some things I really like about it. All those drum layers! Handrin and Miguel working with us! And I absolutely love the Reprise. When we were recording Roads I started singing "This Is Not America" to the chords of the verse and Philipp and I got the idea to make a mashup reprise for Roads which we finished soon after.
We used quite a lot of drum samples in these tracks (some of them heavily edited to match our beat):

In the end I bought some recording gear and a mixing desk, we recorded for about three weeks, invited more friends to join us and got an album of 11 songs that got far better than we ever expected.
That’s what got me back to recording after my band "Hey Nonny Nonny" had split up in 1996. And I'm still at it, even though my time is quite limited. Two weeks ago I had my first gig in ages, playing with my friend and colleague Georg in a pub in Berlin. And we have plans to record some of the songs we played, so there will be new stuff on tuesday songs some time this year, but not too soon. Putting it on the turntable and listening to it from the first to the last note was a sacred act for me some time in the early eighties. And "Battalions Of Strangers" was the song I loved most. Recently I discovered that it's quite easy to play and unexpectedly I got a decent first take that I later upgraded with a hammond organ an a melodic guitar mimicking the indespensable bass line. So here it is.

The first one, "It's Raining", is the funny country song (later followed by songs like "This is my Day" or "Desert in the Sun"), always a pleasure to play at concerts, while "Worlds Blue Innocent" represents our darker side, dismal and broody. This song can be seen as a predecessor to "Mental Vibration" or "Unfading" (alright, almost no one knows these songs, but Mac, I know you know what I'm talking about).
It's mere coincidence that Holger didn't contribute to the writing of these two songs. In fact he was our main songwriter and none of those bands would have existed without his talent. I'm grateful that he stuck with me for ten years. Thank you, Holger! And thank you André for starting it all with us. And thanks to all the people who jumped on that crazy train and enjoyed the ride with us, some for years, some for months and some even only a few days: Jura, Ted, Ecki, Martin, Götz, Handrin, Andi, Anne, Claudia, Steffen, Volker, Wolfgang, Philipp, Amin Jan, Nathalie, Dirk. Thank you all, it was and still is a pleasure!
P.S.: I'm quite certain that I will improve those mixes during the next weekend after listening to them a few times.
